Thurman's turn.

Bosom friends,

so we made it through another Monday!

How you all feeling?

I hope you have taken the recent news with composure.

Uma Thurman was a vision of timeless elegance as she showed off an understated new look at the New York premiere of her new drama, ‘The Slap’ on Monday.

This is the nice version of all the headlines sparked by her new look.

Now what has Uma Thurman done to her face? Actress' suspiciously smooth forehead and tight smile leave her almost unrecognisable.
This one is the nasty ass Daily Mail headline form the article written by Colette Fahy for MailOnline.

It is quite clear that Uma had a bit of freshen-up done but who the hell hasn't???
Jane Fonda didn't look so amazing at the Grammys thanks to her exercise routine. There is no aerobic videotape that can help you look so science-fictionally youthful in your 70's.
The help of a sensible plastic surgeon can. Period.

We all know about the double standard Hollywood has had in place since Elizabeth Taylors glory days: Sean Connery can still be a stud at 84, but a woman of 40 is only good to star in the remake of "Driving Miss Daisy".

Last year it was Renee Zelleweger turn to be massacred by the media when she showed her face after a long period away from the spotlights. The poor girl was treated like meat at a butchery: chopped in pieces and sold by the pound. To me she only looked like herself in her 40's. Of course she had a bit of "grooming" done but she was going to a public soiree and wanted to look her best. Where is the crime in that? I consider way more vicious the way that some youngsters with marble like skin act nowadays. Renee was looking lovely and not overdone at all. She looked like a woman who is embracing ageing gracefully with the help of a good dermatologist.

Now it's Thurman's turn.

Same as above.
Yes, her face was a bit tight and motionless but she is still the elegantly tall actress we loved in Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.
Yes, her makeup was very Tilda Swinton (very little of anything was applied to her face beside a strong red lipstick) and made her overall face appearance a little strange.
Yes, she only managed to smile very little but hasn't Victoria Beckham made a trade mark of such smirk?
Yet the media profusely wrote silly assumptions and speculations about how much she had done to her face.
Also, what is the point of showing us pictures of these ladies when they were in their 20's???
Of course they have changed! It's called ageing. We have no certainties about our lives but the fact that we will all age and eventually die.
These articles of high journalism carry on asking the opinion of other plastic surgeons whom are very happy to spill their illustrious opinions. These nip and tuck wizards should remember that is thanks to these women if they can afford their holiday homes in The Hampton's. They should gracefully limit their spills to a discrete "no comment" and carry on with their lucrative profession.

Furthermore these writers have every right to write what they wan to. It's a free-ish country right?
What they should be aware of that they are still writing about human beings and not about meat sold at the butchers.

When writing about others appearance and when having some "freshen-up" done we should always remember that less is more.

As my grandmother used to say:

"A beautiful silence has never been written."

True beauty surely speaks for itself at any age (cit. Prima Donna, this one is my own!)

Ciao for now.
